Dr. Stephen Douglas
Dr. Douglas received his undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees from The Ohio State University. He served as an officer in the United States Army in Vietnam. Dr. Douglas has been a high school teacher and counselor, a teaching assistant at the university level and a mental health consultant. He is a special consultant to several law enforcement agencies in Ohio and has an active practice in psychological and organizational development. In addition, he speaks throughout North America to more than 150 groups each year. His four-tape audio cassette program has been overwhelmingly well received the past few years. He and his wife, Kay (who is also a psychologist), have two adult sons.

For any of you interested in owning a four-tape audio cassette program or a one hour videotape of Dr. Douglas, both recorded "live," he has order forms available for you.

Mr. Dan Ruminski
Mr. Ruminski is a graduate of John Carroll University with a degree in marketing. He was a high school teacher and coach for eight years.

Martinson-Nicholls, Inc. is more than 50 years old and was purchased by Mr. Ruminski in 1980. The company specializes in pressure sensitive 3M anti-slip tapes and floor matting of all types. Our customers, besides requesting unique applications, look to us for advice on maintenance issues and safety issues concerning slips and falls.

Martinson-Nicholls is a national company using the internet at www.floormat.com to reach customers throughout the world.

Notable projects throughout the year include outfitting some 50 Coast Guard Cutters with our anti slip tape and doing a 400 ft. special matting project for our Cleveland Browns so that they had a safe surface to walk or as they go from locker room to playing field.

Currently, Martinson-Nicholls has invented heated products for indoor and outdoor use to provide warmer, more economical and safer winter environments. Products include:

  1. Heated Desk Mat - low voltage with timer to replace space heaters.
  2. Heated Low Voltage Outdoor Stair Treads with anti slip surface.
  3. Outdoor Heated Ice and Snow Melting Mat with anti slip surface.
  4. Heated Fiberglass Modular Sidewalk for temporary heat as well as melting snow and ice.

Mr. Steve Spencer
Mr. Spencer joined State Farm in 1994 as a specialist in cleaning and interior maintenance. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois and a member of the Building Service Contractors Association, IFMA and serves on the End-User Advisory Council for Invista, National Floor Safety Institute Board and Buildings Magazine Advisory Board. With more than 30 years of experience, he is an information source for all cleaning questions and interior finish specifications in State Farm’s facilities. Mr. Spencer coordinates and teaches the Interior Maintenance School and is responsible for all facility cleaning contract specifications. Steve has written articles for Contracting Profits, Cleaning & Maintenance Management, Housekeeping Solutions, Maintenance Solutions, Buildings, Building Operations Management, ISSA Today magazines and has been a speaker for EMA, ASSE, Antron, BSCAI, IFMA, NEOCON, ISSA, Mannington, Milliken, Illinois State University and Purdue University.

Ms. Barbara Krecic
Ms. Krecic is the Director of Workers' Compensation and Safety for Champion Personnel system, a large staffing company in Cleveland. She has been involved with the staffing industry for more than 25 years; Ms. Krecic once owned and operated her own staffing company for more than 15 years. She is familiar with all the responsibilities and liabilities of owning and operating a small business. She left the industry in 2003 to become a consultant and trainer for safety and workers’ compensation to the industrial sector within the staffing industry. Trained in Colorado at the Red Rocks OSHA Training Center, she is also an authorized OSHA trainer and often provides site specific trainings for various industrial clients.

Mr. Gregory B. Russell
Mr. Russell has 38 years in the material handling field. His background and practical skill development has been in mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, product engineering and development, sales, consulting, leasing co-ordination, risk assessment and management and manufacturing. His education has been in mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems development and integration. Other fields of expertise include hazardous environments, environmental classification, industrial engineering, warehouse storage, equipment integration and material handling. Mr. Russell is the president and CEO of ASE, Excalibur Equipment, LLC, 5 Star Leasing, Inc., and is a partner in material handling joint ventures in Italy and India. Mr. Russell has been called on numerous occasions as an expert witness in situations involving his fields of expertise and is a consultant in his fields of endeavor. ASE manufacturers and markets Internationally Explosion Proof Listed and Classified Forklifts with approved ratings of EX, DY, and in the near future DX.

Mr. George Gillespie
Mr. Gillespie has 35 years experience in the utility business. He has been associated with Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS) for 4 years. His passion for his job is to communicate to everyone across the state of Ohio to “Call Before You Dig.” The Ohio Utilities Protection Service mission is to serve customers by providing a quality one call process.

Mr. Warren Philipps
Mr. Philipps started his career with Central Mutual Insurance Co. in 1969 in the Training and Education Department to learn the insurance business. He c ompleted one year of commercial lines underwriting and entered the loss control department in 1970. He p rogressed through positions of Loss Control Consultant, Senior Loss Control Consultant, loss control supervisor and loss control manager. These positions were held in Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Michigan, and the Dallas and Atlanta regional offices. In 1983 he took the position of regional marketing manager in the Southeast regional office in Atlanta before returning as the loss control director in 1999.

Dennis Habrat
Mr. Habrat is Director, Occupational Health Affairs for Brush Wellman, Inc., a global leader in high performance engineered materials found in end-use products within the telecommunications and computer, automotive electronics, magnetic and optical data storage, industrial components, aerospace and defense markets. He has been with Brush for 24 years in a variety of assignments in corporate human resources. His formal education is in business and law.

Patrick Bauer
Mr. Bauer is a consultant with SOS Technologies, an emergency preparedness company. Prior to the past five years of consulting, Mr. Bauer spent 10 years in the insurance industry doing financial reporting and product development as an actuary.

  • Mr. John Christoph
    Mr. Christoph grew up as a "Hoosier", became a "Blue hen", and now is a confirmed "Buckeye."  He served 23 years [Retired] with the Indianapolis Health department where he held various positions in public health, food safety, code enforcement and vector control. He then moved to the “first State” and served six years with the Delaware State Health Department as a Public Health Food Safety Administrator. He is currently with the Ohio Department of Agriculture as a food safety supervisor. His wife Kathryn is a School Administrator. He has a daughter, Kesha, in law school at Cleveland State and daughter, Ali, a junior “Lady Vol.” at UT in Knoxville, TN.

    Mr. Amanda Comunale
    Ms. Comunale heads up the Central Voluntary Replacement Department for S.A. Comunale. A graduate of Union College, Amanda has been a full-time employee at S.A. Comunale for 2 years.

    Mr. Robert B. Treiber
    Mr. Treiber joined the staff of the National Fire Sprinkler Association in August 2000. He presently serves as the director of training and education for NFSA. He has a bachelor's degree in fire safety engineering from the University of Cincinnati and was with the Kettering (Ohio) Fire Department for more than 26 years, and held the position of director of fire prevention from 1980 to January 2000. He has been involved in fire protection, fire investigation and public education safety for more than 30 years. Mr. Treiber served as an adjunct instructor for the United States Air Force Institute of Technology, School of Civil Engineering from 1976 to 1981, where he lectured on fire protection systems. He is presently an adjunct professor for the University of Cincinnati, Fire Science Program. Mr. Treiber was an instructor for the Ohio Fire Academy course “Introduction to Sprinklers & Standpipes" for several years. Mr. Treiber worked with the National Fire Academy, Emmitsburg, Maryland in developing course material in the area of fire prevention management. He lectured for several years for the University of Wisconsin, School of Engineering. Mr. Treiber has also lectured nationally on fire protection and fire safety. He also served as certified instructor for several Ohio Fire Safety Inspectors courses.

    His professional affiliations include (NFPA) National Fire Protection Association. He is a member of the International Fire Marshal's Association. Mr. Treiber presently serves as an alternate on the Life Safety Code Assembly & Membrane Structures Committee. He also served on the NFPA North Central Regional Fire Code Committee for several years. Mr. Treiber is a member of the Ohio Fire Chiefs' Association, where he served as Chairman of the Code Committee. Mr.Treiber received the Ohio Fire Chief’s’ Association, Distinguished Fire Service award in July of 2000. Other affiliations are the Ohio Fire Officials Association, where he served as first President in 1998 & 1999, the ICC formerly (BOCA) Building Officials & Code Administrators International, where he has served on the following committees: Ad-Hoc Committee on High Hazard Use, vice-chairman, National Fire Code Committee, National Building Code Committee, Ad-Hoc Committee on Exterior Fire Exposure, and the Ad-Hoc Committee on Special Uses. Other associations are Ohio Building Officials Association - past Board of Directors. He received the first Fire Official Award of the year, International Association of Arson Investigators, and the (SWOFSC) Southwest Ohio Fire Safety Council.
